Overtoun Bridge

Overtoun Bridge is an arch bridge located over the Overtoun Burn near Overtoun House in the Milton suburb of Dumbarton , West Dunbartonshire , Scotland .

Completed in 1895 and designed by engineer Henry Ernest Milner, the bridge attracted media attention due to frequent and mysterious dog suicides, which is why it was also renamed the "Suicide Dog Bridge".

The first phenomena relating to dog "suicides" date back to the decade 1950-1960 when some dogs, mainly of the Collie breed , threw themselves from the bridge for no apparent reason. The only things these dogs had in common were that they all jumped from the same place on the bridge and that they were all long-nosed dogs.

According to the Huffington Post , at least 600 dogs have thrown themselves off the bridge since 1950.
